Sorry, Johnny Depp's car didn't break down in Glasgow, Kentucky
There is a nice story flying around Facebook, or at least in Kentucky – unfortunately, it's not true.
The Facebook post recounts a recent visit by Owensboro, Kentucky, native, and Hollywood A-lister, Johnny Depp to Glasgow. Depp gushes about how nice folks are in Glasgow and how a couple of good Samaritans stopped to help when his car broke down. They even took him to lunch at a local restaurant, Garcia's Grill. The most amazing part? No one in the entire town even recognized him.
Here's how the post begins: "During a radio interview this morning, Hollywood actor and Kentucky native Johnny Depp took a moment to praise Glasgow residents who had helped him with a mechanical issue with his rental car as he passed through the city recently."
Which radio station interviewed Depp? It seemed odd that was never mentioned. And, really, no one in Glasgow recognized Depp – he's pretty unmistakable. I called Garcia's Grill. The guy who answered the phone laughed when I asked if Johnny Depp had eaten there recently. "Oh, I think someone is playing a joke on you," he said.
And finally, isn't it amazing that exactly the same thing occurred when Depp supposedly stopped in Rockford, Illinois. Remarkable, really.
A post on the Chicagoland radio station 97 ZOK's website reads: "According to an article from the Daily 10 News, during a radio interview this morning, 'Depp took a moment to praise Rockford residents who had helped him with a mechanical issue with his rental car as he passed through the city recently.'”
Ah ha!While the people of Glasgow are a friendly bunch and would surely have helped Depp had his car actually broken down, the story itself is not true, at least we can't find any evidence. But now we do know the best place to stop for fajitas the next time we travel through that part of the state.
