I hate to say it, but I'm not sure that I believe that Johnny hasn't had a drink in 18 months.  How did he come up with that amount of time?  Is that just an arbitrary amount of time that he came up with for the interview or has he been keeping track for some reason?  AA members keep track of their sobriety in terms of time (days, weeks, months).  He's stated in the interview in Rolling Stone that he doesn't consider himself to be an alcoholic, yet many of his problems in the past have all involved excessive alcohol use that he only resolved by quitting (temporarily) cold turkey.  He has admitted that he drank a lot on the set of The Rum Diary, and that's been more than 18 months ago.  However, that video that we all saw of him stumbling out of a bar in L.A. with friends trying to hold him upright, and he fell flat on his back on the sidewalk - I can't remember when that was, but I would have thought it would have been within the past 18 months.  It was definitely after TRD had come out in theaters and during the time he and Vanessa were having problems.

When I saw those pictures of Amber laughing and cavorting around for the cameras with her friend, the first thing I thought was that maybe she's happy that she's back with friends her own age after having just spent a number of weeks hanging out with a man who just turned 50, who doesn't like to go clubbing and partying and prefers to stay home.  Amber seems to be extroverted and a very social person.  Johnny has said many times that he's uncomfortable in social situations, at parties, and events because conversation doesn't come easy to him when he's meeting people for the first time.  So he avoids those situations by not going if at all possible.  Amber isn't going to want a life of being holed up in Johnny's house because he isn't the social butterfly that she seems to be.  So I agree with the threads above that this relationship doesn't seem to me to be something that will be long lasting.  I just hope that Johnny isn't so blinded by new love and lust that he asks her to marry him right away (if he hasn't already) like he did in the past with his previous girlfriends.

Johnny seems to be someone who loves and values close friendships with those he's decided he can trust, loves sitting around until all hours of the night talking about all sorts of topics and getting really deep into conversations, enjoys sitting at home listening to music and/or playing music with friends, spends time by himself painting, and loves spending free time engrossed in multiple books sucking up the knowledge like a sponge.  Amber might find all of that very attractive initially, but I think in the long run, she's going to become bored by it.  Johnny could very easily become a happy little hermit with his head in books, music and paintings and having intense in-depth conversations with friends.  Amber likes to go out and kick up her heels with groups of her friends and have fun.  It seems like she'll eventually end up feeling stifled by his tendencies to want to close himself off from the outside world and stay at home most of the time.
